The church of St Mary's was awash with the brightness of fuschia pink on Saturday evening 14 March 2009 and the buzz of an expectant capacity audience filled the air. A charity concert featuring the all ladies choir, A Handbag of Harmonies, bedecked in pink feathers boas and supported by the choir of Dodleston CE Primary School was soon in full swing. The main purpose of the concert was to raise badly needed funds for Claire House Children's Hospice, which is located near Clatterbridge, Wirral and is the only children's hospice that covers the whole of Cheshire. The Handbag of Harmonies choir performed professionally and perfectly a selection of songs many of which were old favourites and some new to the choirs repertoire. The school choir slotted beautifully into the evenings entertainment and rounded off the first half performance to a very appreciative audience. The fact the evening raised more than £1,700 for Claire House was testament to the dedication and hard work of the organisors and especially Mrs Hilary Bushnell (Head Teacher of Dodleston Primary School) and Maureen Richards, former Cheshire County Music Advisor. Very special thanks also go to Mrs Jean Hughes for arranging sponsorship and her input and advice was invaluable to ensure the evening was a great success. Mr George Aitchison did sterling work on the door collecting tickets and the Village Shop provided an invaluable service selling tickets before the event. Finally, the concert could not have taken place without the support of Cliff James and indeed, St Mary's Church itself as this proved to be an ideal venue and much admired by many who had not had the pleasure of visiting the church before. |
